Faculty

The Faculty of Law of "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iasi is the first faculty of the Iasi University.  The Moldovan faculty of law began its existence on June 3, 1830 when, with a special solemnity, the course of laws in Romanian was inaugurated by the state jurisconsult, Christian Flechtenmacher. When the University of Iasi was founded in 1860, the Faculty of Law was the only one to function with three years of study, and it also had the largest number of professors.

The mission of the Faculty of Law is to provide professional training based on excellence, to promote research in the legal sciences and to be a partner for the whole community.

The Faculty of Law brings together more than 2000 students and 40 teaching staff members, one undergraduate (Bachelors studies) and 7 masters programmes (L.LM).

Every day in the life of the Faculty is an opportunity for learning, dialogue and excellence!

In absentia lucis, tenebrae vincunt

The way of organising studies at the Faculty of Law follows the Bologna system (through the specific formula of legal studies: 4+1+3), each subject is credited and the levels of studies are complete, concretised in bachelor (240 ECTS), master (60 ECTS/120 ECTS) and doctorate (PhD studies). Each subject has a number of ECTS credits, according to its degree of difficulty, set by the curriculum. Each subject is completed with a final form of assessment that ensures the award of those credits.

The Faculty of Law in Iasi is also distinguished by its constant attendance to a series of traditional events, such as the annual session of scientific communications, which is organized every year at the end of October, on the occasion of the celebration of UAIC Days.

In addition, numerous conferences and colloquia are among the annual scientific events, dealing with various and current research topics: "Legal Perspectives on the Internet", Conference on Foreclosure, Conference on Labour Law, scientific events of research centres and student circles (under the aegis of the Robertianum Centre: Circle of Legal Hermeneutics "School of Organic Law", Circle of European Civil Law "Dimitrie Alexandresco", Circle of European Social Law "Europae Caritas", Workshop of Intellectual Creations "Insignis, Scientia & Ars"; Centre of International Law "Mihail Vasile Jakota", Centre of Business Law "I. L. Georgescu", Public Law Circle, Criminal Law Circle "Vespasian Pella").

The French-speaking collaboration of our faculty has brought together major academic centers in Iasi: organization of the summer school on human rights, in collaboration with the International Institute of Human Rights in Strasbourg René Cassin (2006 and 2007 editions); organization of the international French-speaking conference of doctoral students in criminal law, with the participation of PhD students and tutors from Bordeaux, Nantes, Naples and Chisinau (2014, 2015, 2016).

The graduates of our faculty have made known and promoted the quality of legal studies in Iasi through their professional achievements, starting with succeeding at the admissions to the following legal professions: judges, prosecutors, lawyers, court clerks, notaries, executors, legal advisors, legal advisors assimilated to magistrates, advisors in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, police officers, military, etc. The administrative structures of the European Union represent an opportunity for career growth and development for all our graduates, who have constantly successfully passed the admission exams for becoming European officials.

Moreover, our graduates have continued their studies abroad in European countries as well as in Asian and American countries. Thus, we are proud to have Master's and PhD students in Konstanz, Bordeaux, Paris, Shanghai, Beijing, etc.

Likewise, the faculty's teaching staff come from the ranks of graduates, ensuring continuity in the spirit and the values of the legal school of Iasi.
